GOTS — the Global Organic Textile Standard — is the world's leading certification for organic textiles.
Where most "organic" claims on a finished textile cover only the cotton fibre and stop there, GOTS audits the entire textile supply chain: the farm, the gin, the spinning mill, the weaver, the dyer, the finishing house, and the trader. Every facility along that chain has to hold its own GOTS certificate, and the whole chain is independently audited every year.
GOTS was first published in 2006 and is jointly governed by four founding member organisations across Europe, North America, Japan and India.
Loop Home is GOTS-certified to the "Organic" label grade, which requires a minimum of 95% certified organic fibres in the finished product. Our certificate number is CU1133274, verifiable on the global-standard.org public database.
What GOTS covers
GOTS is built around a clearly defined set of key features. The ones that matter most when you're choosing a towel:
Organic fibres. A textile carrying the GOTS label must contain a minimum of 70% certified organic natural fibres. To carry the higher "Organic" label grade, the threshold rises to 95%. Loop Home is certified at the 95% "Organic" grade.
Environmental criteria. GOTS prohibits a long list of substances commonly used in conventional textile processing — including chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, and a defined set of banned dyes and finishing agents. Wastewater from wet-processing facilities must be treated to specified standards before discharge.
Human rights and social criteria. GOTS requires compliance with International Labour Organisation core conventions — no child labour, no forced labour, freedom of association, non-discrimination, safe working conditions, and a living wage. These are audited at every facility in the chain.
All processing stages. Every step from spinning to packaging has to be GOTS-certified, not just the cotton farm. This is the feature that distinguishes GOTS from less rigorous "organic cotton" claims that cover only the fibre.
Traceability. GOTS guarantees an independent, gapless verification of a traceable product flow. Every shipment between certified facilities is documented and can be reconstructed by an auditor.
Third-party certification. On-site inspection is performed annually by independent GOTS-accredited certification bodies — not by GOTS itself, and not by the brand. This is the structural reason GOTS claims hold up where self-declared "eco-friendly" claims often don't.
Loop Home's certificate CU1133274
Our GOTS certificate number is CU1133274. The CU prefix indicates our certifying body is Control Union — one of the largest independent inspection and certification bodies in the world, and an accredited GOTS certifier.
What that number means in practice:
What gets audited. Our supply chain — from the cotton farm through the spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing facilities in Denizli, Türkiye — is inspected on-site, annually, by Control Union auditors. The audit covers fibre traceability, prohibited substances, wastewater treatment, and worker conditions at every facility.
What the label grade covers. Loop Home products carry the "Organic" label grade, which means a minimum of 95% of the fibre content is certified organic. (The remaining ≤5% covers permitted accessories and minor non-organic content — sewing thread, labels, and similar.)
How to verify. GOTS publishes a public database of every active certificate. You can look up CU1133274 — or any other GOTS claim from any other brand — at global-standard.org's certified suppliers database. If a brand claims GOTS and can't produce a verifiable certificate number, that's the question worth asking.
When it's renewed. GOTS certificates are valid for one year and must be renewed annually after a fresh on-site audit.
GOTS publishes a public database of every active certificate. Search for CU1133274 at the GOTS certified suppliers database — the active certificate, its label grade, certifying body and supply chain are all returned.
